‘The Canberra Fisherman’ 2010
Medium:
Mixed media
Size: variable
Artist Statement:
My concern is with the health and future life of our local rivers and waterways. Will the native fish species survive? Will there be enough water flow in the rivers to ensure a healthy environment for people and water creatures? How will the growing population of Canberra affect the rivers?
I graduated from the Canberra School of Art in 2009,in Print media and Drawing, with Textiles taken as a minor. My interest at the moment is in creating artists books and 3-D sculptural paper forms. A fascination with depicting water continues, and now that I live at the south coast, I am observing the ocean every day.

Background to the work:
The 4 years at Art School allowed an exploration of my relationship to rivers of the Canberra region and the Snowies. A lifetime of walking, swimming, drawing, meditating and dreaming about these wild places, came to be expressed in prints, drawings, constructions, books and textile works. Basically the search is for an experience of freedom.
