Introduction
to the day: Developing, exploring and translating mark making through hand
stitch processes and fabric manipulation.
10.15 - 11.30
Mark
making session using dry and fluid media onto paper surfaces. Bring objects to
make marks with (sponges, cardboard, old kitchen utensils etc) working solely
in Black on white, White on black, White on white or Black on black.
11.30
- Q&A and tidy up studio for an afternoon of stitching.
Lunch
- please bring your own lunch or visit the lovely cafe at Strathnairn.
1.00 - 3.00 (coffee and tea available throughout the afternoon)
Using
your mark making from the morning session we will develop responses to this
using stitch and fabric manipulation.

- Plenary and tidy up ready to leave promptly for Braidwood Quilt Airing
(optional visit using own transport and Pizza at Braidwood).
Materials list for the morning session - this is indicative
and not compulsory to have all of this but bring what you have
Black ink
(Quink and/ or Indian Ink)
Gouache /
acrylic
Gesso
Polyfilla
A range
of papers and card ranging from tracing paper, kitchen grease proof paper
through to card in Black and White.
Mark
making utensils including the ever useful kitchen roll tube, old toothbrush,
sponge, stick, feather, leaf etc.
Scissors
Materials list for afternoon session - this is indicative
and is not compulsory to have all of this but bring what you have
Black and
white thread / yarn / string / clear nylon filament or fishing line etc
Appropriate
hand needles to accommodate the yarn
A range
of black and white fabrics and substrates that connect with the range of papers
you are bringing
from, translucent through to heavy fabrics.
