Graduate Diploma of Art (Visual), Canberra School of Art,
ANU.
I have been exploring fibre arts for over 40 years and have tutored in
NSW, Queensland, New Zealand, ACT and Victoria and at Toowoomba Summer School,
Quilters symposiums and Fibre Forum at Mittagong.
From 1989 to 1995 I taught at CAE, Melbourne, taking classes in
piecing, slashing, creative embroidery and conducting workshops in
shibori. Media I have used include
fabric dyeing, shibori, paper-making, batik, embroidery, patchwork, and
quilting.
For many years I have specialised in shibori techniques and more
recently have progressed beyond dyeing to the use of these techniques to
produce texture in fabric, creating sculptural forms, often as wearable art or
dual purpose pieces to be worn or hung. These
days, my work is more abstract than representational.
Selected Group Exhibitions
I have exhibited work
extensively including interstate and overseas. My work was accepted by the jury
for exhibition at the VIe Triennale Internationale des mini-textiles
at Musées d’Angers in November 1999. I
exhibited in the “Fibre Imprints” exhibition at Orange Regional Gallery in
1997, the first exhibition of shibori by Australian practitioners.
