Barbara Jackson

My net is cast using recycled copper wire. It began its life linking us to power and telecommunication. The knitted copper has a delicateness that translates to the exchange of memories.

This body of work looks at likeness, with the graphite reflection of the knit, a fragility in the delicate knitted vessels and a familiarity with the multi needle knit. The patina of the two vessels has been changed. This represents an added degree of fragility of our exchange of recollections.

The sculptural piece with ‘needles’ has a supplementary significance as it links to the transference of craft expertise from me to my daughter in law and from her back to me.

Barbara Jackson graduated from the National Institute of Art, ANU, with a Bachelor of Visual Arts. She has a Graduate Diploma and Masters Degree in Education from the University of Canberra.
